From the dry tropics, to the wet tropics, an amazing contrast...
The Food Trails Highlander is a tasty sightseeing tour visiting the Northern and Central Cairns Highlands.
You will visit both the wet and dry tropics, the tablelands towns of Mareeba, Tolga and Yungaburra. Tasting excellent commercial produce, and meeting local people, are all part of this unique, personalised tour, away from the crowds.
European cheese and chocolate makers, with a passion for fine food produce new and traditional cheeses, plus hand made chocolates. You can view the cheese factory and stroll over to the shed where the cows are being milked. Enjoy a Devonshire tea, cheese tastings and if your lucky a bit of chocolate.
Wild Mountain Cellars is one of the newest Highland wineries. With wine names like Moonshadow, Black Pearl and Rolling Thunder you are in for a treat! Those few have been made from Black Sapote, Coffee and lime respectively.
You will enjoy the informal atmosphere of the little tin shed that is Wild Mountain's Cellars. You will have a yarn with the winemakers while sipping on their selection of wines, fortified wines and liquers. Take some back to your hotel to enjoy with cheese or have it packed and sent direct to your home.
The Curtain Fig tree became part of the World Heritage Wet Tropics national park in 1988, and protects a small pocket of endangered Mabi forest, and is a home to the Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo. You will gaze in awe at the extensive aerial roots that can strangle adjoining trees, and which drop 15m from the rainforest canopy, to the ground, creating the curtain-like apperance.
Hear all about the macadamia industry at Wondaree Macadamia Plantation. Around Greg's farm and under the trees your informative tour explains how they grow and harvest this Australian bush nut. Tastings are provided for your enjoyment and Macadamias can be purchased direct from the farmer.
This tour departs Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Educational farm tours, and/or tasting experiences await you, at every stop. You may purchase from the cellar door, or the farmer.
