AUTHENTIC AUSSIE EXPERIENCE

If you would like to experience the Aussie Outback here is the perfect opportunity....

Make sure to bring your camera to Undara as you will see wildlife in abundance including wallabies, kangaroos, lizards and birds as well as literally thousands of micro bats. The Collins family have created an outback retreat where you can relax by the pool and enjoy superb meals but also enjoy the many activities and tours with a Savannah Guide.

This experience is enjoyable for people of all ages.

We recommend you stay at least one night as the Sunset tour, the evening meal, the bushfire singalong and the bush breakfast are all an experience not to be missed.

The saloon car and dining carriages are a great place for dining, reading or meeting new friends. The bistro serves healthy country fare and the bar has a range of Australian wines.

For your accommodation, the Lava Lodge offers authentic turn-of the century railway carriages which are beautifully restored. Charming, compact and comfortable with shared amenities, the carriages evoke the appeal of yesteryear's train journeys. The siding decks are the perfect place to watch wildlife or relax quietly enjoying the restful sounds of the bush. Single, Double or Family Cabins are available.

For those who like camping without roughing it, then ‘Swags Tent Village' is ideal. Newly refurbished large and comfortable permanent tents are situated in a shady bush setting. There are 25 twin, triple and family tents which all have access to central amenities and kitchen facilities.

Dormitory style accommodation is also available for budget travellers. The triple share rooms with bunks are very private, set under a shady sail.  There is a dedicated shady camp kitchen with hot and cold water, free gas barbeque, picnic table and chairs. Firewood is available for purchase.

Getting There:
The Undara Experience is 275 kilometres south west of Cairns. It is between 390 and 510 kilometres northwest by road from Townsville, depending which route you take. Travel time from Cairns is 4 hours.

Undara Experience is an approved destination for hire vehicles. The road to Undara is now sealed the entire way from Cairns. Sections between Mt Garnet and 40 mile scrub National Park are narrow and drivers share the road with an icon of Australia’s outback, Road-trains. (Some up to 50 metres long). PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY and keep an eye out for Kangaroos and cattle wandering onto the road.

A variety of scenic routes are available:

  • Cairns to Undara via Port Douglas & Rex Range
  • Cairns to Undara via Kuranda
  • Cairns to Undara via Gillies Range
  • Cairns to Undara via Innisfail

Choose from the full day: 'Lost World Adventure', a 4 hour Volcano Valley tour or 2 hour Archway Explorer. Finish your day with the beautiful Wildlife at Sunset tour!
